Our Ingredients

Full recipe, instructions, and photos in the recipe card at the end of post.

Instant Vanilla Pudding: In honor of making this recipe a quick holiday treat, I'm using instant vanilla pudding but you can definitely make your own vanilla pudding.

Heavy Whipping Cream: You want to make sure your heavy cream is very chilled before whipping. It also helps if you place your whipping bowl in the freezer beforehand.

Bananas: You want ripe but not overly ripe bananas like you would use in a banana bread. This will ensure that your pudding lasts longer in the fridge. The airtight mason jars I'm using helps with this as well.

Eggnog: Our star of the show! I'm using a store bought full fat eggnog but you can use any eggnog of your choosing.

Wafers: I'm using Nilla wafers. They are the best in my opinion and bring back so many memories of my childhood.

  1. In a bowl, combine your milk, instant vanilla pudding, 1 cup of eggnog, and your condensed milk.
  2. Stir well and place in fridge to set for 15 minutes or until pudding has thickened.
  3. While pudding is setting, place your heavy whipping cream and 1 cup of eggnog in your cold whipping bowl and combine until stiff peaks form. Reserve ½ cup of your whipped cream for your garnish.
  4. Gently fold your vanilla pudding into your whipped cream mixture.
  5. Slice your bananas into ½ inch rounds.
  6. Crush your wafers into medium chunks.
  7. Start layering your mason jars. Start with crushed wafers, then pudding, then 3-4 banana slices.
  8. Continue layering until you reach the top. Then top with some eggnog whipped cream, some crushed wafers, and a sliced banana.
  9. Serve immediately or it's best if left to sit in the fridge for an hour so the wafers soften.

Substitutions and Variations

Dairy-Free Version: Use dairy-free eggnog and substitute the milk and cream with coconut milk and coconut cream.

Add Some Spice: Sprinkle a bit of cinnamon or nutmeg between layers for an extra holiday kick.

Different Cookies: Swap out the Nilla Wafers for gingersnaps or shortbread for a different flavor and texture.
